It's the early 1980s in Camden, two-tone and punk are pulsing in the air and everyone at school seems to be talking about the four minute warning. Two best friends, Jimmy and Karen, are about to embark on their own adventures - romance, politics, tangled friendships, parental problems, an attack on a nuclear base...
But someone is watching what they're up to and watching closely.
This is a story about love, sex, spying and nuclear weapons. Just normal sixteen-year old stuff.

A sharp-eyed portrait of teenagers coming of age in Eighties London and a tale of inter-generational rebellion against the threat of nuclear holocaust. Jimmy and Karen, each superbly and humorously characterised, led me (whilst pushing and shoving each other) back to a time and society which I had all but forgotten, bringing it all alive again. This book would appeal to anyone who lived through the early Eighties and to those who didn't but want a glimpse of life in the shadow of Mutually Assured Destruction. Would love to see this transferred to television.

A light-hearted and engaging tale that made me almost miss the '80s! (but not too much). While full of humour, the author portrays his characters with sensitivity and manages to poke fun at them without being disrespectful to the women's movement, and the great work that was done by campaigners at the time. A great read for remembering a bit of history, or learning a bit. Highly recommended!

I really enjoyed this novel. While it was well-plotted and the different strands of the storyline handled well, it was the realisation of the characters and their dialogue that really shone for me - I love Jimmy and Karen and really enjoyed their funny, snappy chat - great fun

Jimmy and Karen eBook Philip Andrea Reviews
Jimmy and Karen is a somewhat interesting novel about two 16 year olds who reside in London and become involved in a women for peace activist group in which Jimmy's mom in helping run. The book for me was interesting at first but the chapters got confusing. The book switches back and forth between jimmy being the narrator in first person to the narrators again in first person who is one of the Scotland Yard officers who is watching the group for terrorist activities. It took me a while to realize what was going on. It probably would have been better if it switched every other chapter or at least more frequently then it dose in the beginning. As I neared then end it was more difficult to Finnish because I'm just not that interested in the women's group but rather in story line between jimmy Karen and their friends Brian and Simon.
Pretty good book and I was able to read it for free in exchange for my Honest review.
It was alright book. The switching between the antagonist and the protagonist could have been better written other than that it was ok. I received a copy of this for free for a review.
It was pretty good. Not my cup of tea as far as my normal stuff that I will read, but it was very well written. It got a little confusing as far as the jumping back and forth for who's POV it was.

An enjoyable romp through the 80's very well realised through the characters of Jimmy and Karen. The social and political atmosphere of the time was well evoked and the plot line involving the women's peace movement made some interesting points whilst still being entertaining. I particularly enjoyed the smart
backchat between Karen and Jimmy and their friends.
I did find the book a little slow to begin with and had to make myself keep going, but then as often happens the characters hook you and I was sad to leave them.
I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Can the Brits really speak so much differently than Americans? I still dont know what a jumper is! I need an English English/American English dictionary!
The characters are interesting. The pace of the book is a little too slow for me. We don't learn much about teen homosexual relationships. The depiction of Americans as a bunch of warmongers was also disappointing. Were we warmongers when the Brits wanted us to help during WW2?
Not my cup of tea.
