This book is short and simple. It is the simple foundations you need to start your life of strong immunity. Amelia has explained why you should begin a life of nutritious eating. I can not express how important this is. Amelia has explained the reasons well in this book. Her advice goes far beyond avoiding disease but living a full and well balanced life.

The 'Mediterranean Diet' is one of those terms thrown around when it comes to 'fad diets' but this book helped me to finally see it for what it is, which is... a relatively newly perceived way to eat healthy and maintain that healthy lifestyle. While some of the practices fly directly in the face of my own Paleo lifestyle, the basic tenets are in place to help people achieve a sensible and healthy way of living.
I found the book to be well written and easy to follow, which is saying something when addressing the current climate of self-publishing.
There are so many diets around at the moment, and I dismiss most of them without a second glance. For me, it is all about eating a healthy and balanced diet rather than losing weight, but I do feel better when I eat in a wiser way.
I live in Spain, and certainly my diet is much more healthy now than it once was.
This book grabs everything that is great about Mediterranean food... and bundles it up into a straightforward, easy to understand format. Everything from the very basics about what the diet is, how it works, through to step by step instructions on how to best incorporate it into your life. It's about principles, and a way of life rather than ticking boxes.
Amelia knows her subject matter, and is passionate about it. This book talks about ingredients that are available everywhere - unlike many that contain things you just can't get all over the world.
If you are the kind of person that loves their food, but struggles to follow any kind of regimented diet - then this is the book for you.
This book is short and simple. The Go Fish A Quick Start Guide to the Mediterranean Diet is a gateway to a healthier life. This book has great advice for healthy living in general, not just for a fad diet. I also appreciated that the introduction and first chapter clearly explained the basic guidelines for the Mediterranean Diet Pyramid and the benefits. Eating Mediterranean is not about having a weight loss plan or being on the `traditional diet' program. It is introducing you to a new and healthier way of life that happens to help you lose weight because of the healthy calorie intact but also your body is in balance. This new way of life just might save yours and your family’s life.
The author states and I have to 100% agree with this statement “Studies show that the mortality rate from various illnesses decrease up to 70% due to the positive health effects caused by this diet.” I believe it is one of the healthiest and well-balanced diets out there today and personally recommend it. I love that this book says, “That this diet does not require dieters to follow certain food restrictions and specialized workout routines.” So, you know what that says to me; that means more people will succeed with this diet and benefit from this new healthy lifestyle and reading this book.
Over all this book is worth the read and money. I recommend this healthy book and the Mediterranean diet lifestyle.

These words, lifted directly from Amelia Simons introductory words in her new book GO FISH give an insight as to how serious this follower and proponent of the Paleo diet really is. Written in a warm and supportive manner, but always shooting from the hip, Simons takes the time to explain in easy to understand terms just exactly what the Mediterranean diet is, why it works to improve health, manage weight, and support a disease free life.
She defines the pyramid of foods and ingredients that comprise the Mediterranean diet vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, olive oil and of course Fish as the source of protein, substituting for red meat, limiting the consumption of sweets, meats, and processed products and reducing the consumption of wine and dairy products. Once she has established the foods preferred in this diet she explains the health benefits (and there are many, substantiated by the medical field), the insider facts about the Mediterranean diet, and the other reasons for choosing this diet. She includes discussions on how the Mediterranean diet is different from other diets, how to lose weight on the Mediterranean diet, heart healthy benefits of the Mediterranean diet, key food components of the Mediterranean diet, and then she launches her discussion on how to begin to incorporate the concept of this diet with the family - very solid and extensive and useful series of discussions and rules and regulations! No, she doesn't ignore the importance of daily exercise.
Simons closes her colorful book (she adds some beautiful color photographs to make her lessons visual and well as mental) she outlines her ideas for breakfasts, snacks, lunches, and dinners and the advice while complete and sound is actually very easy to follow because of the manner in which she offers the information. For beginners new to the concept of the Mediterranean diet this book is about as complete and fine as they come. After reading this book it would be difficult to hear any reader say `Oh, but I can't do that - it is too complicated.'
